Hotel and Riad Babysitting in Morocco: How It Actually Works

Leaving your child with someone you have never met, in a country you are visiting for the first time: that is the hesitation almost every family shares with us before their trip to Morocco. It is a perfectly healthy instinct. This guide walks through exactly how in-hotel babysitting works, at a hotel, riad or rental villa, what gets verified before a nanny ever reaches your door, and the questions you are entitled to ask any provider.

How an on-site babysitting session actually works

The principle is simple: the nanny comes to wherever you are staying. Hotel, riad in the medina, guesthouse or rented villa, she arrives at the agreed time, usually fifteen to thirty minutes before you head out. That buffer is not padding: it is the settling-in period.

During those minutes, the nanny introduces herself, gets acquainted with your child while you are still in the room, and goes through your instructions: evening routine, meals, allergies, comfort toy, bedtime rituals. You set the pace. If your child needs ten more minutes to warm up to a new face, you take ten more minutes. Many parents deliberately book a short first session, dining at the hotel restaurant downstairs, before trusting a full evening out.

What the nanny does while you are at dinner

An evening session follows your child's normal rhythm: quiet play, dinner if it has not happened yet, bath time if you wish, a story and bed. Once the child is asleep, the nanny stays in the room or immediately nearby, depending on the layout and your instructions. She never leaves the child unattended.

You get updates during the evening, by message or photo if you like. Some parents want an hourly check-in, others prefer to be contacted only if needed: just say so when you book.

What about language?

A frequent and legitimate concern: your child needs to be understood. Our nannies speak French, and many also speak English, alongside Arabic. When you send your request, tell us which language your child speaks and we assign a caregiver who can communicate naturally with them. For a baby the point matters less; for a four-year-old who wants to tell someone about their day, it matters enormously.

Hotel concierge or specialist agency?

Many hotels offer babysitting through their concierge desk. In practice this often means whichever staff member is free that evening, a housekeeper or a trusted employee, with no specific childcare training and no dedicated background check. It can go perfectly well, but you have no visibility on who will show up or what their references are.

A specialist agency does childcare and nothing else: dedicated vetting, trained nannies, a backup plan if someone falls ill, and a contact person reachable throughout the session. Both options exist; what matters is knowing exactly what the service you are offered covers, and asking about vetting in either case.

What time slots can you book?

The most common requests from visiting families:

Evening babysitting during a dinner or a night out, by far the most popular slot.
Daytime care, so you can explore the medina, enjoy a hammam or play golf while the children make the most of the pool.
Care during an excursion: the Agafay desert, the Ourika valley, quad biking or a hot-air balloon ride, when the activity is not suitable for little ones.
Overnight care, especially for families with a baby who need to catch up on a real night's sleep.
